How to say “rest” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
فأعقبهم الرَّاحَة فِي طَرِيق التلقي
It gave them rest on the path of arrival.
الرَّاحَةُ — rest. The subject of 'brought as a sequel', nominative ('-u'), definite — rest / ease. What followed their toil.
From: Stages of the Seeker →وامتناعك ترك وراحة
And your refraining is simply letting go, which is relief.
وَرَاحَةٌ — and relief. A second predicate joined on, 'and a rest', so the one subject ('your refraining') gets two descriptions at once. Arabic happily gives a single topic a pair of predicates this way.
From: Repentance and Resolve →وَإِن حفظته مَعَ إصْلَاح الْوَقْتَيْنِ اللَّذين قبله وَبعده بِمَا ذكرت نجوت وفزت بالراحة واللذة وَالنَّعِيم
And if you preserve it, along with correcting the periods before and after as I mentioned, you succeed and attain comfort, pleasure, and bliss.
بِالرَّاحَةِ — with comfort. With the verb 'win through', this 'bi-' is the fixed partner marking the prize, 'win comfort'. Arabic ties 'winning' to this preposition, which governs 'comfort' in the after-preposition ending.
