  And it fell into their hands at the harvest, when they saw the yield of what they had sown.

  عَايَنُوا — they saw. A past-tense verb, 'they saw / beheld with their own eyes', with the -u 'they' ending carrying the plural subject. Its pattern stresses direct, firsthand seeing, so the people personally witness the result. It heads the 'when' clause begun just before.

• مَنْ عَايَنَ بِعَيْنِ بَصِيرَتِهِ تَنَاهِيَ الْأُمُورِ فِي بِدَايَاتِهَا نَالَ خَيْرَهَا،

  Whoever, with the eye of his insight, perceives the ends of matters in their beginnings obtains their good.

  عَايَنَ — he perceives. A past-tense verb in form, but inside a 'whoever' sentence it states a general truth, so English reads it as a present. Its 'he' subject is built in, and it carries the condition: whoever perceives. The later verb 'obtains' is its answering result.
