Arabic vocabulary
How to say “seriousness” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَوَصَفَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ النُّسَّاكِ عِنْدَ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ ابْنِ عَائِشَةِ فَقَالُوا هُوَ جِدٌّ كُلُّهُ،
They described a man among the ascetics to Ubayd Allah ibn Aisha, and they said, "He is all seriousness."
جِدٌّ — seriousness. An indefinite abstract noun naming the trait, here the comment made about 'he', so it serves as the predicate of the verbless statement. Kept indefinite, it reads 'is seriousness itself', describing his whole character.
