Arabic vocabulary
How to say “so that it may be said” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
ولكنك فعلت ليقال جواد، فقد قيل، ثم أُمر به فسُحب على وجهه ثم ألقي في النار
But you did it so that he would be called generous; so it was said. Then an order was issued about him; he was dragged on his face and then thrown into the fire.
لِيُقَالَ — so that it may be said. This fronts li- 'so that' onto a passive present verb 'be said', and that purpose-particle forces the verb into a special non-plain shape. The li- marks the aim of the man's deeds - he acted in order that something be said of him. The passive hides who would do the saying (people in general), keeping the focus on the desired reputation rather than any speaker.
