How to say “standing in prayer” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَكَثِيرٌ مِنَ النَّاسِ يَصْبِرُ عَلَى مُكَابَدَةِ قِيَامِ اللَّيْلِ فِي الْحَرِّ وَالْبَرْدِ
Many people endure the hardship of standing in prayer at night in heat and cold.
قِيَامِ — standing in prayer. An action-noun ('standing/rising'), naming the deed itself as a thing the way an '-ing' noun does. Here it is the middle link of a chain of 'of' pairings: owned by 'standing of the night', and itself owning 'the night' next. It carries the genitive ending as the owned term of the larger phrase.
