How to say “they” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
ثم يقال يا أيها الناس هلم إلى ربكم ، وقفوهم إنهم مسؤولون ،
Then it will be said: 'O people, come to your Lord, and stop them, for they will be questioned,'
إِنَّهُمْ — for they. This is the emphatic 'indeed' with attached 'they' as its accusative subject — 'for indeed they [are]...'. It grips its subject pronoun in the accusative and gives the reason they are detained. The predicate follows.
From: The Return of Jesus →فَوَاللَّهِ لَقَدْ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ إِنَّهُمْ قَاتَلُوكَ
By Allah, I heard the Messenger of Allah say, "Indeed, they will kill you."
إِنَّهُمْ — indeed they. A strong opener 'indeed' with attached -hum 'they' as its topic. It stamps the following statement as emphatically certain, and that particle pulls the attached pronoun into object form even though 'they' is what the clause is about.
From: Warning Before the Battle of Badr →فَإِنَّهُمْ هُمْ الْأَقَلُّونَ قَدْرًا،
For indeed they are the least in worth.
فَإِنَّهُمْ — for indeed they. Three layers in one word: the front fa- gives the reason ('for'), the heavy inna stamps the whole statement as emphatically certain, and -hum ('they') is the subject inna seizes. Inna is the booster that turns a flat sentence into 'indeed they truly are...', and it forces its subject pronoun into the object-style form. So the word both justifies the preceding command and asserts it forcefully.
From: Choosing Good Companions →فَإِنَّهُمْ لَنْ يُغْنُوا عَنْكَ مِنَ اللَّهِ شَيْئًا،
For they will never avail you of anything from Allah.
فَإِنَّهُمْ — so indeed they. Three pieces: the front fa- gives the reason ('for'), the heavy inna asserts the statement with force, and -hum ('they') is the subject inna grabs. Inna upgrades a flat clause to 'for indeed they...', forcing its subject pronoun into the object-style form. So the word justifies the preceding command and stamps it as certain.
