Arabic vocabulary
How to say “to withhold” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَقَوْلُهُمْ لَمَّا انْضَجَ رَمَدَ، مَذْكُورٌ فِي قَوْلِهِ تَعَالَى وَأَعْطَى قَلِيلًا وَأَكْدَى
And their saying: 'As soon as it ripens, it spoils' is mentioned in His saying: 'And gave a little, then withheld.'
وَأَكْدَى — then withheld. This is 'and' joined to a past verb 'he withheld, gave no more', the 'he' subject inside. The 'and' chains this onto 'gave a little', completing the contrast of a small gift then a stop. It reports the second action.
