How to say “verses” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَلَا يَزَالُونَ يَتَنَاوَبُونَ آيَاتًا مِنْ سُوَرٍ مُخْتَلِفَاتٍ إِلَى أَنْ يَتَكَامَلُوا قِرَاءَةً،
And they continue taking turns reciting verses from different chapters until their recitation is complete.
آيات — verses. A broken plural 'verses', the object of 'take turns reciting', so it takes the object-style ending. The vowels are recast inside to mark plurality rather than an added ending. It names what they pass back and forth in their alternating recitation.
