Arabic vocabulary
How to say “wounded” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
والذي نفس محمد بيده ما من كلم يكلم في سبيل الله إلا جاء يوم القيامة كهيئته يوم كلم،
By the One in whose hand is Muhammad's soul, there is no wound inflicted in the Cause of Allah except that it will come on the Day of Resurrection in the same state it was when it was inflicted,
يُكْلَمُ — inflicted. This is the passive form of the verb: the wound is received, inflicted by an unnamed agent, not something that acts. Arabic marks the passive by changing the inner vowels rather than adding a helper word like 'is', so the form sits close to its active twin while flipping the roles; it describes the wound as one that gets dealt.
