Arabic vocabulary
How to say “ascetic” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
كَمَا أَن العابد الزَّاهِد قد يكون لما فِي قلبه من بِدعَة ونفاق مسخوطا عِنْد الله وَرَسُوله
Just as a devout worshipper may, because of the innovation and hypocrisy in his heart, be disliked by Allah and His Messenger.
الزَّاهِدَ — the ascetic. This is an adjective describing the worshipper, agreeing with that noun in being definite and in its accusative case, as Arabic adjectives must match their noun. So its ending mirrors the noun's, attaching 'the ascetic' as a quality.
