How to say “close” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
وتقول الحمدُ لله فتَرُدُّ الفضلَ إلى المُنعِم وتسدُّ بابَ الكِبر
And you say: 'All praise is due to Allah' and return the credit to the bestower and close the door to arrogance.
وَتَسُدُّ — and close. 'and you block' — 'wa' plus present 'you shut', subject 'you' inside. The doubled final is the root shape; another effect of the praise.
From: Remembrance That Reshapes the Heart →فانحدرت صخرة من الجبل فسدت عليهم الغار،
Then a rock fell down from the mountain and blocked the entrance of the cave.
فَسَدَّتْ — so it blocked. This pairs the connector fa- ('and so', marking result) with a past-tense verb. Here fa- signals consequence: the rock fell, and as a result it sealed the cave; the verb's feminine ending agrees with the rock as its doer.
