How to say “mountain” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
حتى لو أن أحدكم دخل في كبد جبل، لدخلته عليه حتى تقبضه،
Even if one of you were to enter the core of a mountain, it would enter upon him to take his soul.
جَبَلٍ — a mountain. This completes 'the core of a mountain', in the genitive as owner. Even buried in solid rock, one cannot escape.
From: The Return of Jesus →فانحدرت صخرة من الجبل فسدت عليهم الغار،
Then a rock fell down from the mountain and blocked the entrance of the cave.
الْجَبَلِ — the mountain. This noun is governed by 'from', so it sits in the 'of' (genitive) ending. The al- on its front makes it definite, presenting the mountain as a known fixture of the scene rather than something newly introduced.
