Arabic vocabulary
How to say “disobeyed” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فقال إن ربي غضب غضباً لم يغضب قبله مثله، ولا يغضب بعده مثله، وإنه نهاني عن الشجرة، فعصيت، نفسي نفسي نفسي، اذهبوا إلى غيري،
He said: "My Lord has become angry with an anger unlike any anger before or after. He forbade me from the tree, and I disobeyed. Myself, myself, myself! Go to someone else."
فَعَصَيْتُ — and I disobeyed. The connector fa- 'so/then' fused to a past-tense verb carrying an 'I' ending. Fa- marks the disobedience as following straight from the prohibition, and the first-person subject is built into the verb, so it reads 'so I disobeyed'.
