How to say “dream” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
وَيَرَى لِيَّ كُلُّ سَنَةٍ عَابِدٌ مِثْلُكَ هَذِهِ الرُّؤْيَا
And every year a devout worshipper like you sees this vision about me.
الرُّؤْيَا — the vision. A definite feminine noun marked by al-, the thing seen, the object of 'sees'. With the feminine pointer before it, the al- gives 'this particular vision'. It closes the sentence as the content of the yearly dream the worshipper experiences.
From: A Night of Reckoning →كَانَ أَوَّلُ مَا بُدِئَ بِهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الرُّؤْيَا الصَّادِقَةَ فِي النَّوْمِ،
The first thing the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, experienced was the truthful dream during sleep.
الرُّؤْيَا — the dream. This noun carries the 'the' marker and is the predicate the framing 'was' verb points to: it is what 'the first thing' turns out to be. So it closes the long 'the first thing... was the dream' arc opened at the sentence's start.
