How to say “encounter” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
قال أبو بكر رضي الله عنه فوالله إنا لنلقى مثل هذا،
Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, said: 'By Allah, we experience the same.'
لَنَلْقَى — we experience. This carries a special emphatic 'la-' prefix that pairs with the 'indeed' before it — the 'la-' that lands on the predicate of an 'inna' sentence for extra stress. The verb itself is a present 'we meet / encounter'. Together: 'we most certainly experience...'.
From: Devotion and Daily Life →لَقَى رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْإِنْسِ رَجُلًا مِنَ الْجِنِّ فَصَارَعَهُ فَصَرَعَهُ الْأَنْسَى
A man from among the humans met a man from the jinn; they wrestled, and the human felled him.
لقى — met. A past-tense verb 'met / encountered' with its 'he' subject built in, opening the narrative. It takes the following noun as the one met.
