Arabic vocabulary
How to say “he liked” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
كنا مع رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم في دعوة، فرفع إليه الذراع، وكانت تعجبه،
We were with the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, at a meal where a foreleg was presented to him, which he liked.
تُعْجِبُهُ — he liked. A present-tense verb with an 'it' subject and a 'him' pronoun fused on as its object. The verb's logic is reversed from English: the foreleg is the doer that 'pleases', and the 'him' is the one pleased, so the thing liked is grammatically the actor.
