From: Unity Over Partisanship →فيحييهم في عافية،
He keeps them alive in well-being,
عَافِيَةٍ — well-being. A bare indefinite noun, 'well-being', in the (genitive) form under the 'in' before it. Standing without 'the', it names the general condition their life is preserved in.
From: Health as a Blessing →ويتوفاهم في عافية،
...and causes them to die in well-being,
عَافِيَةٍ — well-being. This is an indefinite noun, carrying no 'the', and its final '-in' sound is the genitive ending triggered by the preposition before it. The indefiniteness leaves the well-being general rather than one particular instance, the way English 'in well-being' works without an article.
From: Health as a Blessing →فقال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم ورسول الله يحب معك العافية
So the Messenger of God (peace be upon him) said: And the Messenger of God loves well-being with you.
الْعَافِيَةَ — well-being. This is the definite object of 'loves', and its ending is the object-case mark that flags it as what the verb acts on. The 'al-' makes it specific, so it is the particular well-being being spoken of.
