كم وقى الرَّسُول بِالْمَالِ وَالنَّفس
How much he protected the Messenger with his wealth and his life.
كَمْ — how much. An exclamatory 'how much / how many', opening a cry of amazement at the quantity — 'how much he…!'. It marks the great extent of his protecting.

Then it will be said: 'Bring out the group destined for the Fire.' It will be asked: 'Out of how many?'
كَمْ — how many. This is the question-word 'how many?' — asking the proportion bound for the Fire. So 'out of how many [is the Fire's share]?'. The staggering answer comes next.

How many a man has gotten angry at his child or friend, uttered a harsh word that separated them, or committed a terrible deed that led to enmity.
وَكَمْ — and how many. The joined 'and' plus an exclamatory 'how many', opening a marveling clause: and how many a man. The 'and' links it on; the exclamatory governs the count of the noun that follows.
