فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ إِنْصَرَفْتُ،
I greeted him, then I left.
فَسَلَّمْتُ — so I greeted. The fa- ('so/then') links to the scene; the verb is a past 'I greeted' with the first-person 'I' built in. One word holds the greeting and the greeter.
