وَأَثَّرَ — and affected. A Form II verb (with a doubled middle letter) meaning 'left a mark on / influenced', in the past. The doubling intensifies and makes it transitive, so it reaches out to affect others. It pairs with the preposition coming next to show whom it affected.

أَثَّرَ — left an indentation. A past verb 'left a mark / made an impression', single-thing subject (the mat) built in; with 'already' it reads as 'had imprinted'. It heads the clause describing the mat.
