Arabic vocabulary
How to say “pointed” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
التقوى ههنا، ويشير إلى صدره بحسب امرئ من الشر أن يحقر أخاه المسلم،
Taqwa is here, 'and he pointed to his chest.' It is enough of a sin for a person to belittle his Muslim brother.
وَيُشِيرُ — and he pointed. This is wa- (and) on a present-tense verb, 'and he points', with the 'he' doer built into the shape. The present form here narrates an action vividly even though the surrounding story is past; Arabic often shifts into the present to make a remembered scene feel live.
