How to say “servitude” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
وَله عَلَيْهِ عبودية فِي هَذِه الْمَرَاتِب كلهَا
And He has a right to the servant's worship in all of these ranks.
عُبُودِيَّةٌ — servitude. The '-iyya' ending builds an abstract noun, 'servanthood', the state of being God's slave. It is the delayed subject of 'He has... upon him', in the '-u' ending; Arabic forms such abstractions by adding this suffix.
From: Accepting God's Decree →فَأحب الْخلق إِلَيْهِ من عرف عبوديته فِي هَذِه الْمَرَاتِب ووفاها حَقّهَا
So the most beloved of creation to Him is the one who knows his servitude in these ranks and fulfills its due right.
عُبُودِيَّتَهُ — his servitude. The abstract '-iyya' noun 'servanthood' again, now the object of 'knew', so accusative, with 'his' fused on. He recognizes his own condition as servant across the stations.
From: Accepting God's Decree →وأبعدهم مِنْهُ من جهل عبوديته فِي هَذِه الْمَرَاتِب فعطلها علما وَعَملا
And the furthest from Him are those who are ignorant of their servitude in these ranks and neglect it in knowledge and action.
عُبُودِيَّتَهُ — their servitude. The abstract 'servanthood' again, the object of 'was ignorant of', so accusative, with 'his' fused on. He fails to know his own standing as a servant; the suffix is singular 'his', matching 'whoever'.
From: Accepting God's Decree →فعبوديته فِي الْأَمر وامتثاله اخلاصا واقتداءا برَسُول الله
So his servitude regarding the command is by complying with sincerity and emulating the Messenger of Allah.
فَعُبُودِيَّتُهُ — so his servitude. The 'fa-' moves the exposition on, and this abstract '-iyya' noun with 'his' fused on is the topic: 'his servanthood [is]...'. The predicate, his compliance, follows with no 'is'.
From: Accepting God's Decree →وعبوديته فِي قَضَاء المصائب الصَّبْر عَلَيْهَا
And his servitude in the decree of calamities is patience upon them.
وَعُبُودِيَّتُهُ — and his servitude. The abstract 'servanthood' with 'his' fused on, opening another statement as its topic. The pattern continues: a third domain (afflictions) and the servitude proper to it.
