غَرَائِبَ — strange things. A broken-plural noun 'oddities/strange things' forming the owned half of an 'of' pairing with 'the faces' next - 'oddities of the faces', i.e. strange facial contortions. Two nouns side by side give the possessive with no word for 'of'. Its plural shape is the irregular vowel-shuffled kind Arabic uses rather than a simple added ending.
