How to say “submission” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
والتفكر في عجائبه والعمل بمحكمه والتسليم بمتشابهه
And contemplate its wonders, act on its clear commandments, and submit to its ambiguous ones.
وَالتَّسْلِيمِ — and submit. An action-noun, 'and the surrendering,' joined to the list. With the clear verses one acts; with what comes next — the unclear — the duty is instead to yield, as the following word shows.
From: Devotion to the Quran →وَلَا بُدَّ مِنْ تَسْلِيمِ أَنَّ بَعْضَ الْكَبَائِرِ أَكْبَرُ مِنْ بَعْضٍ،
And it must be acknowledged that some major sins are more severe than others.
تَسْلِيمِ — acknowledging. A verbal noun, 'acknowledging', the head of a 'that...' construction and held in the (genitive) form by the 'of' before it. It names the act that cannot be escaped, with its content spelled out next.
From: What Small Worship Erases →ومن الصلاة على رسول الله تسليما كثيرا دائما أبدا
And send abundant, perpetual blessings and peace upon the Messenger of God forever.
تَسْلِيمًا — peace. This action-noun, 'a greeting of peace', is in the object ending as an emphasising echo of the blessing, a fixed way of saying 'with all peace'. Arabic places such a verbal noun in the object ending to reinforce the action just mentioned, here stressing the peace invoked.
