How to say “the Sunnah” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
الآيَة وشواهد هَذَا كَثِيرَة فِي الْكتاب وَالسّنة
This verse and the evidences of this are many in the Book and the Sunnah.
وَالسُّنَّةِ — and the Sunnah. A connector plus a definite noun, 'and the Sunnah', joined to 'the Book' and likewise governed by 'in'. As a coordinated item it copies the owned form, so both sources stand together.
From: Following Desires →وَأَهْلُ الْكِتَابِ وَالسُّنَّةِ،
And those who follow the Book and the prophetic tradition,
وَالسُّنَّةِ — and the prophetic tradition. The wa- coordinates this with 'the Book', so the group is 'people of the Book and the Sunnah', both genitive owners in the same possessive frame. The single prefixed 'and' links the two sources the group is defined by.
From: Ignoring God's Guidance →فَقَالَ أَهْلُ السُّنَّةِ يَقْصِدُ أَبَا بَكْرٍ؛
The Sunnis said that he meant Abu Bakr.
السُّنَّةِ — the Sunnah. A definite noun, 'the Sunnah', the owned half of 'people of the Sunnah', in the after-a-possessor case. Set beside the noun before it with no word for 'of', it is what the 'people' belong to and makes the phrase definite.
