How to say “wounded” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
والذي نفس محمد بيده ما من كلم يكلم في سبيل الله إلا جاء يوم القيامة كهيئته يوم كلم،
By the One in whose hand is Muhammad's soul, there is no wound inflicted in the Cause of Allah except that it will come on the Day of Resurrection in the same state it was when it was inflicted,
كَلِمَ — it was inflicted. This is the passive form of the verb: the wound was inflicted on someone by an unnamed agent. Arabic marks the passive by changing the inner vowels rather than adding 'was', so the form looks near its active twin while reversing the roles; here it fixes the original moment of wounding that the wound's later state matches.
