How to say “ability” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
امْلأ يومك بحقائق صغيرةٍ متينة نِيّةٍ مصحَّحة، صلاةٍ على وقتها، كلمةِ عدل، عفوٍ عند القدرة
Fill your day with small, sturdy truths—a corrected intention, a prayer on time, a word of justice, forgiveness when able—
الْقُدْرَةِ — able. Genitive after 'inda' — 'the ability'; forgiveness offered when one has the power to retaliate.
From: When Hidden Deeds Are Shown →فَكَيْفَ يَلِيقُ بِأَحْكَمِ الْحَاكِمِينَ وَأَرْحَمِ الرَّاحِمِينَ وَأَقْدَرِ الْقَادِرِينَ أَنْ يُقِرَّهُ عَلَى ذَلِكَ؟
How then can it befit the Most Wise of the wise, the Most Merciful of the merciful, and the Most Powerful of the powerful to approve him in that?
وَأَقْدَرِ — the Most Powerful. This joins 'and' to a superlative 'most powerful', the third 'of' pair in the coordinated list of titles, genitive in the chain. It completes the threefold description of the One whom the wrong could not suit.
From: Proof of the True Messenger →السابع أن رد الماء إلى الاحليل أو الصلب بعد خروجه منه غير معروف ولا هو أمر معتاد جرت به القدرة وإن كان مقدورًا للرب تعالى
The seventh is that returning water to the urethra or backbone after it has departed is neither known nor a usual occurrence allowed by power, even if it is something the Lord Almighty can do.
القُدْرَةُ — power. This noun 'the power' is the delayed subject of 'ran', made definite by 'the', in the plain subject ending. It comes after its verb, the normal verb-then-subject order, naming what is customarily accustomed to such acts.
From: Ten Proofs of Resurrection →وهو لم يخبره بقدرة خالقه على رد الماء في إحليله بعد مفارقته له
And He did not inform him of his Creator's ability to return the water to his urethra after it has departed from it.
بِقُدْرَةِ — of the ability. This noun has the preposition 'with/of' fused to its front and opens a possessive pairing with the next word. The preposition links it to the verb of informing as its content, and the noun then owns the following noun in an 'of' chain.
From: Ten Proofs of Resurrection →وكل ذلك من آيات قدرته وربوبيته
All of these are signs of His power and lordship.
قُدْرَتِهِ — His power. A noun 'power' with a 'his' ending, the owning noun in 'signs of His power', in the owner form of the chain. The form supplies the 'of' link and the suffix ties the power to God.
From: Proof in All Creation →جمع بقدرته من المختلفات أشتاتًا،
He gathered diverse elements by His power,
بِقُدْرَتِهِ — by His power. The 'with/by' prefix is a preposition forcing the genitive and marking the means of the gathering, and the noun it governs carries an attached 'his' pointing back to Allah. So one word bundles preposition, noun, and possessor, meaning 'by His power'.
From: Death and Decree →وذلك يشترك فيه أهل اليد والقدرة وأهل العلم والكلام،
This includes both people of power and capability and people of knowledge and speech.
وَالْقُدْرَةِ — and capability. The wa- joins a second quality to the first, and the 'the' after it keeps the noun definite, 'and capability'. It is coordinated into the same 'of' pairing, so it shares the genitive ending.
