Arabic vocabulary
How to say “darknesses” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَقَالَ تَعَالَى الْبَقَرَة الله ولي الَّذين آمنُوا يخرجهم من الظُّلُمَات إِلَى النُّور
And the Exalted said (in Sūrah al‑Baqarah): “Allah is the guardian (walī) of those who have believed; He brings them out from the darknesses into the light.”
الظُّلُمَاتِ — the darknesses. Definite plural, 'the darknesses', governed by the preposition into the owned form. The plural, metaphorical here, suggests many layers of darkness; the 'the' marks the known concept.
