How to say “rely” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
فأخبروه فقال هم الذين لا يرقون ، ولا يسترقون ولا يتطيرون، وعلى ربهم يتوكلون
They informed him, and he said: 'They are those who do not perform ruqyah on others, do not ask for ruqyah to be done for them, do not believe in omens, and they rely upon their Lord.'
يَتَوَكَّلُونَ — they rely. A Form V verb 'put their trust', sound masculine plural ('-una' = 'they'), closing the description. Its object ('upon their Lord') was pulled in front for emphasis, so the verb lands last: upon their Lord — they rely.
From: Those Who Enter Without Account →عَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ وَإِلَيْهِ أَنِيبُ
I put my trust in Him and turn back to Him in repentance.
تَوَكَّلْتُ — I put my trust. A past-tense verb whose '-tu' ending marks 'I' as the doer, the subject built into the verb's own tail rather than stated apart. It completes the fronted 'upon Him' before it, so the placing of trust is fixed firmly on God.
From: Guidance for the Seeker →وَهَذَا الْعَبْدُ يَسْأَلُ رَبَّهُ وَيَتَضَرَّعُ إِلَيْهِ وَيَتَوَكَّلُ عَلَيْهِ
And this servant asks his Lord, implores Him, and trusts in Him.
وَيَتَوَكَّلُ — and he trusts in. The 'wa-' joins the third action, and the verb is a present-tense reliance-pattern 'puts his trust', which naturally takes an 'upon...' phrase. The conjunction completes the trio of devotional acts.
