How to say “reward” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
وَإِذا لآتيناهم من لدنا أجرا عَظِيما ولهديناهم صراطا مُسْتَقِيمًا
And if We were to give them from Us a great reward, and (so) guide them to a straight path.
أَجْرًا — a reward. Indefinite noun, 'a reward', the object of the giving verb, in the object form with an indefinite ending. The indefinite marking and object form together present it as a newly bestowed thing.
From: Following Desires →وَلَنَجْزِيَنَّ الَّذِينَ صَبَرُوا أَجْرَهُمْ
And We will surely reward those who were patient with their reward.
أَجْرَهُمْ — their reward. A noun with the plural possessor -hum ('their') attached, and it is the direct object of the rewarding-verb, the thing given. The -hum points back to the patient group, so it is 'their (own) reward'. Its object (accusative) ending marks it as what is handed over.
From: Mothers and the Companions →فَقَالَ يَا عَبْدَ اللَّهِ أَدِّ إِلَيَّ أَجْرِي
He said, "O Abdullah, pay me my wages."
أَجْرِي — my wages. A noun with an attached 'my' pronoun and no separate 'the', the possessor making it definite. It is the direct object of 'pay', the thing demanded; the 'my' marks the wages as the speaker's own due.
