How to say “the Hereafter” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
لِصَلَاةِ الْعِشَاءِ الْآخِرَةِ ـ
for the final night prayer.
الْآخِرَةِ — the final. A descriptive word, 'the later/final', matching the noun before it in definiteness and case; agreement is how Arabic ties an adjective to exactly the noun it describes. It narrows the night prayer to the later one.
From: Prayer During Illness →فَظَفَرَ الصَّابِرُونَ بِهَذِهِ الْمَعِيَّةِ بِخَيْرِ الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ
Thus the patient ones prevailed by this companionship with the good of this world and the Hereafter.
وَالْآخِرَةِ — and the Hereafter. wa- coordinates this onto the previous noun, adding the Hereafter as a second owner in the same 'good of...' pairing. The conjunction keeps both worlds on one level, sharing the single 'good' they qualify.
From: Patience and God's Help →الْوَاصِلُونَ إِلَى هَذِهِ الرُّتْبَةِ هُمْ الْمَنْصُورُونَ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالآخِرَةِ
Those who reach this rank are granted victory in this world and in the Hereafter.
وَالآخِرَةِ — and the Hereafter. The wa- on the front coordinates this noun with 'this world' before it, joining the two realms under the same 'in'. The conjunction here builds the pair, so 'this world and the Hereafter' are treated together as the scope of the victory.
From: Three States of the Heart →نَحْنُ أَوْلِيَاءُكُمْ فِي الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ
We are your protectors in this worldly life and in the Hereafter.
الْآخِرَةِ — the Hereafter. A definite noun in the genitive after the 'in' it follows, naming the next world. It completes the 'this life and the Hereafter' pairing, and its case is set by that preposition, marking the second sphere where the protectors stand by.
From: Three States of the Heart →وَاشْتَرَوْا الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا بِالْآخِرَةِ
And they exchanged the life of this world for the Hereafter.
بِالْآخِرَةِ — with the Hereafter. The bi- prefix here is the 'with' of exchange: in a buying-and-selling frame it marks the price or thing given up, so 'bought the world bi- the Hereafter' means they paid with the Hereafter. It forces the genitive and names what was traded in return.
From: Three States of the Heart →بِمَا يُقَصُّ مِنْ وَصْفِ الْآخِرَةِ وَأَهْوَالُ يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ
by what is recounted of the description of the Hereafter and the terrors of the Day of Resurrection
الْآخِرَةِ — the Hereafter. A definite noun, 'the Hereafter', the owned half of 'description of the Hereafter', in the after-a-possessor case. Set beside the noun before it with no word for 'of', it is what the description belongs to.
From: Sermons, Wit, and Sorrow →وَذِكْرُ الْآخِرَةِ أَمْرٌ خَارِجٌ عَنِ الطَّبِيعَةِ، ثُمَّ هِيَ مِنْ خَارِجٍ،
And mentioning the Hereafter is a matter outside of natural disposition, and it comes from outside.
الْآخِرَةِ — the Hereafter. A noun made definite by al- ('the'); here it is the owned half of an 'of' pairing with the action-noun before it: 'the mention OF the Hereafter'. The genitive ending marks it as the thing being mentioned, and its definiteness passes back to fix the whole phrase.
From: Guarding the Heart from Heedlessness →وَكَيْفَ، وَأَنَا الثَّائِرُ لَهُمْ فِي الدُّنْيا وَالْآخِرَةِ،
And how, when I am their avenger in this world and the Hereafter,
وَالْآخِرَةِ — and the Hereafter. The wa- on the front is 'and', joining a second realm to the first under the same 'in', and the noun carries 'the'. So this word coordinates 'the hereafter' with 'this world', both governed and in the governed form. The pairing spans both worlds the avenging covers.
