How to say “amusement” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
الَّذِي قَطَعَ أَنْفَاسَهُ بِالْمُجُونِ وَاللَّهْوِ وَالْأَلْعَابِ
who cut short his life through debauchery, amusement, and games
وَاللَّهْوِ — and amusement. The 'wa-' tied to the front simply chains this noun onto the previous one, and because it joins an item governed by 'bi-', this noun inherits the same genitive ending and the same 'by means of' role without repeating the preposition.
From: Three States of the Heart →فَقَدْ بَانَ مِمَّا ذَكَرْنَا أَنَّ نُفُوسَ الْعُلَمَاءِ تَسْرَحُ فِي مُبَاحِ اللَّهْوِ
From what we mentioned, it has become clear that the hearts of the scholars roam in permissible amusements.
اللَّهْوِ — amusements. The al- makes this definite, 'the' amusement, and it closes the 'permitted part of...' pairing as its owner. Sitting in the owned-by slot, it carries the genitive 'of' ending, locking the two words into 'the permitted amusement'.
