How to say “homes” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
إن غلب نور عمله الصالح ثَقُلَت كفّته، فيُعرف مكانه في الجنّة بعمله كما يعرف أهل الجمعة منازلهم عند الانصراف
If the light of his righteous deeds prevails, his balance becomes heavy, and his place in paradise is known by his deeds, just as those who attend Friday prayers know their homes upon leaving.
مَنَازِلَهُمْ — their homes. 'their houses' — 'manazil' (broken plural of 'manzil') with 'their' attached, accusative as the object of 'know'. They recognize their homes.
From: Small Deeds, Great Reward →ثم نهض فدخل منزله،
Then he stood up and entered his house.
مَنْزِلَهُ — his house. This is the object of 'entered', in the accusative, with attached 'his' — 'his dwelling'. The pronoun ties the house to him. One word holds noun and possessor.
From: Those Who Enter Without Account →ويعطيهم منازل الشهداء
...and grants them the ranks of martyrs.
مَنَازِلَ — ranks. This is the first half of a possessive pairing: two nouns set side by side to mean 'the ranks of the martyrs', with no separate word for 'of'. Being the owned thing in front, it drops any 'the' of its own and takes its definiteness from the owner that follows it.
