How to say “messengers” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
فَهَذَا التَّوْحِيد الَّذِي جَاءَت بِهِ الرُّسُل
This is the monotheism with which the messengers were sent.
الرُّسُلُ — the messengers. The doers of 'came', nominative, arriving after the verb as Arabic allows. Though it means 'the messengers', its plural is handled as feminine singular for agreement, which is why the verb was 'ja'at'.
From: Worship God Alone →وَبِهَا أرسل الرُّسُل وَأنزل الْكتب
And it was for this that He sent the messengers and revealed the books.
الرُّسُلَ — the messengers. This noun carries 'the' and its ending marks it as the object of the sending verb. The accusative ending identifies the messengers as those sent rather than the sender.
From: Worship and Repentance →إذهبوا إلى نوح، فيأتون نوحا فيقولون يا نوح ، أنت أول الرسل إلى أهل الأرض، وقد سماك الله عبداً شكوراً،
Go to Noah, so they go to him and say: "O Noah, you are the first messenger to the people of the earth, and Allah has named you a grateful servant."
الرُّسُلِ — messenger. A plural noun made definite by al- 'the', in the genitive as the owner half of the pairing before it: 'the first of the messengers'. The genitive ending supplies the 'of' with no separate word, and its definiteness fixes the group referred to.
From: The Prophet's Intercession →قَالَ أَنْ تُؤْمِنَ بِاَللَّهِ وَمَلَائِكَتِهِ وَكُتُبِهِ وَرُسُلِهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ، وَتُؤْمِنَ بِالْقَدَرِ خَيْرِهِ وَشَرِّهِ
He said: 'It is to believe in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, the Last Day, and to believe in predestination, its good and its bad.'
وَرُسُلِهِ — His messengers. An 'and'-joined list item with an attached '-His', so God owns the messengers too. It rides the same 'believe in' verb as the earlier items, the 'and' marking it as one more entry. The possessive ending again points to God as the owner.
