How to say “place” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
وَمَحَلُّهُ مِنَ الظُّفْرِ كَمَحَلِّ الرَّأْسِ مِنَ الْجَسَدِ
And its place in victory is like the place of the head in the body.
وَمَحَلُّهُ — and its place. The wa- resumes the comment, and the noun it carries is 'place/standing' bearing -hu ('its'), the topic of a comparison. So 'and its standing...' reopens the point, with the attached possessor tying the standing to patience. This noun heads the 'X is to Y as A is to B' structure that follows.
From: Patience and God's Help →وَأَخْبَرَ عَنْ نَبِيِّهِ يُوسُفِ الصَّدِيقِ أَنَّ صَبْرَهُ وَتَقْوَاهُ وَصَلَاتُهُ إِلَى مَحَلَّ الْعِزِّ وَالتَّمْكِينِ
And He informed concerning His prophet Joseph, the Truthful, that his patience, piety, and prayer elevated him to a station of honor and firm authority.
مَحَلَّ — a station. A noun ('station') that leads the first half of an 'of' pairing, taking the genitive after the 'to' preposition. As the head of the chain it stays bare of 'the', handing definiteness to the owner that follows.
