How to say “engaged” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
فخاض الناس في أولئك الذين يدخلون الجنة بغير حساب ولا عذاب،
The people discussed those who will enter Paradise without account or punishment.
فَخَاضَ — so they discussed. This is 'so' plus a past verb meaning 'plunged into / fell to discussing'. It pairs with the preposition next: 'khada fi' is the idiom for delving into a topic of talk. Its subject follows.
From: Those Who Enter Without Account →فخرج عليهم رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم فقال ما الذي تخوضون فيه؟
Then the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, came out to them and said: 'What are you discussing?'
تَخُوضُونَ — you discuss. A present verb 'plunge into / discuss', sound masculine plural ('-una' = 'you all'). It pairs with the pronoun-preposition next, since 'delve INTO' takes its topic through 'fi'. The subject 'you' rides in the verb.
